Features Of Moodle™ LMS
Moodle™ LMS Is Open Source
Moodle™ LMS is the most used open-source software that education institutions, as well as organizations worldwide use for providing online training to learners.
Besides, Moodle™ LMS can conduct courses online, while providing face-to-face teaching, learning and training. Moodle™ has varied usage in blended learning, distance education, flipped classroom and other e-learning projects in schools, universities, workplaces and other sectors as well.
Moodle™ Supports Over 500 Plugins
Moodle™ Learning management system has over 500 plugins that can bring about social and collaborative learning. Plugins are nothing but a set of flexible tools that allow Moodle™ users to extend the core functionality of the software. All these plugins are maintained in the Moodle™ plugins directory for the Moodle™ user to use as per his needs.
Whenever there is an upgrade to the plugins, or there are some newly released plugins, or RSS feeds the plugins are usually set up for new activities, new quiz question types, new reports, integrations with other systems, and many more.
Moodle™ UI Is Super Easy
No matter you are an administrator, course creator, educator or learner, using Moodle™ LMS will be cakewalk for you. With its intuitive dashboard and a graphical user interface, teaching, learning and using Moodle™ LMS becomes easy.
It’s the consistency and coherent nature of the Moodle LMS UI that makes it Moodlish, while making it better than any other UI built for the same purpose. The best part is you don’t need to be a programmer to use Moodle LMS. Play around with the navigation for some time and you’ll be a pro in the Moodle™ environment.
Moodle™ Supports E-Learning Standards
Moodle™ LMS is SCORM 1.2 compliant. SCORM is essentially a set of eLearning standards that defines the way communication occurs between the content and the learning management system. It also paves a way that shows how courses outside the LMS should be authored for them to be able to talk to the LMS properly.
Besides, Moodle™ learning management system version 2.1 and later versions also supports AICC content packages. IMS content packages can be exported and imported into Moodle™ . Lastly, Moodle™ LMS uses the External Tool activity to act as an ‘LTI consumer’, while can act as an ‘LTI provider’ using a plugin.
Moodle™ Is Mobile Compatible
Moodle™ LMS as an eLearning platform allows the users 24/7 access to its courses and content. While the materials can be accessed from anywhere, and from any of the mobile devices, learners get the freedom to learn on their own time, according to their convenience.
The offering of mobile-based eLearning by Moodle™ learning management system, makes learning-on-the-go easier for the users. This complementary aspect of the learning process provided by Moodle™ LMS, gives way for greater flexibility to the learners to access course materials on any mobile device. This makes life and learning both easier for them.
Moodle™ Packs Fantastic Features
Moodle™ LMS comes with an array of resources, features and activities. Block elements like calendars, student activities and text activities like chat, forum and wikis, help learners socialize. Moodle™ LMS version 2.8 flaunts all the robust features like a new user interface that helps access the pages a user wants or needs quickly and efficiently.
Besides, the user gets the provision to email documents and other important correspondence with an attachment directly to themselves, this helps them save the information for future use. This and many other features like ‘auto-save’ feature for text, ‘like’ feature that allows the user to share reap all of the benefits of social media, while in Moodle learning management system.
Robust Reporting And Analytics
Moodle™ LMS now helps the user keep track of all their upcoming events and appointments with detailed logging features. This feature also helps make the grade tracking process incredibly simple. The simplicity extends to the reporting feature in terms of organizing and averaging of the reports as specified and needed.
The analytics feature of Moodle™ learning management system helps the admin get an insight into the progress of the learners, by ensuring that the objectives are being met. Through analytics, one can view trends of participation, submissions and other data, which can eventually assist educators to improve the e-learning experience. This would help vastly in increasing the learner information retention rates and thereby their successes.
Moodle™ Supports Integrations
Moodle™ LMS can seamlessly integrate with some of the premium software portals seamlessly. And the best part is, with all these integrations, Moodle™ can form Single Sign On (SSO). To cite a few examples, Moodle™ integrates with video conferencing software like GoTo, Webex, Adobe Connect, CMSs like Joomla, Drupal, WordPress, CRMs like Salesforce, SugarCRM, Microsoft Dynamics, ecommerce portals like Shopify, collaborative tools like OneDrive and Dropbox.
These integrations brings together Moodle™ LMS with other programs, so they function together as a system. Moodle™ learning management system can be integrated with endless varieties of programs/software to meet customized needs of the training department.
Moodle™ Supports SCORM
Moodle™ LMS can easily decode various SCORM learning objects. So, the next question that arises is, whether the LMS admin should design the courses to make it SCORM compliant or use Moodle’s™ features for the same. The answer would depend on how the LMS admin intends to use the courses.
If his aim is to export the courses from Moodle™ LMS and use them in another LMS, then going the SCORM way would make things easier. One important aspect for eLearning people to remember is that Moodle™ LMS does not generate SCORM content. It simply put Forths all the content in the form of SCORM packages to the learners, while saving the data from user interactions with the SCORM package.
Worldwide Community For Moodle
Programmers and developers around the world are available that continuously work to improve the user experience for Moodlers. In addition, Moodle™ LMS also have forums from where a Moodle™ user can get all the support, share ideas, and meet others, while doing all this in their desired language.
He can also contribute to the forum/community in case he wants to answer a question, give feedback by rating posts or in case he wants to login a bug or have a suggestion for a new feature. The Moodle™ user can also help shape Moodle’s™ future by participating in the developer discussions and other research projects.
Pedagogical Learning Approach
Moodle™ LMS answers the most neglected question that most of the commercial eLearning software fail to answer. Other eLearning software portals only go after the features they can offer, while overlooking the aspect of offering pedagogies.
So how will the learners learn without pedagogies? Moodle™ LMS answers the pedagogy point via constructivism, social constructivism, and connectivism, all adopted as its pedagogies. It means that knowledge can be built and developed through constant interaction and cooperation. More when knowledge is processed properly, it is then that the learners are immersed during the process.
