This shift towards elearning was mainly caused by a need and desire to cut costs, save time and hassles. However, one very important factor can easily be overlooked when organizations decide to migrate, and it\u2019s called social learning<\/a>. [\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

For example, the main strengths of a university are their brick-and-mortar campuses. These are social hubs that bustle with people who share similar interests. As e-Learning is often performed at home, this interaction with others is lost and the instruction can become quite lonely and boring.<\/p>\n

Here is where E-Learning comes in:<\/h2>\n

With a concept that has existed since the beginning of time, and formally discussed since the 1950\u00b4s. This concept is called Social Learning Theory, and states that people learn from one another, or learn within a social context. When this activity is done online it is referred to as social eLearning. When we explore the meaning of social learning within a modern day organization, Tony Bingham, president and CEO of the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) defines it as \u201clearning that happens outside a formal structure or classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n

This process does not necessarily need to happen face to face. Learning can happen informally through emails and written communication. That is where today\u2019s popular social media tools come in. Applications such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other tools allow us to easily interact with friends and other similar-minded people, even when we are sitting at our computers at home.<\/p>\n
