You\u2019re tired of that pesky, What is SCORM?<\/a> It is basically a set of technical standards developed for e-learning software products. SCORM stands for \u201cSharable Content Object Reference Model\u201d. It helps in guiding programmers to write their codes so that it can play well with various other e-learning software.<\/span><\/p>\n

\nSCORM enables interoperability between eLearning software products that helps to determine and governs how Learning Management Systems (LMS)<\/a> and online learning content communicates with each other. It is purely a technical standard that does not speak to any instructional design. \u00a0SCORM was also introduced as a specialized program in 2003 initiated by the office of United States Secretary of Defense.<\/span><\/p>\n

Origination of SCORM<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Early in the 90s, when the US government was focusing on various online training programs in various departments, each of these programs operated autonomously by developing their own training courses<\/a> and distributing them through LMS of their choice. Hence, this generated duplication of content. Because of this in 1999 Department of Defense gave a task to a group of researchers known as Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) with a particular task of developing set of standards. Today this is known as SCORM. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How SCORM can assist you?<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

One of the biggest benefits of having SCORM is the interoperability between eLearning software products as stated earlier. For instance, if you are designing any eLearning content with the help of tools like Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia or Lectora and want to upload it to a system like Paradiso LMS you can use SCORM to perform this task. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Here is how it works, content is created with the help of an eLearning authoring tool and then published by this tool in SCORM. It simply looks like a Zip file when it is published to SCORM but this zip package consists of all the files that are required to make the eLearning content run properly since it been packaged up in line with SCORM standards. Moreover, it can be easily uploaded to any SCORM compliant LMS and then carried out to the learners.<\/span><\/p>\n
